What Merchants Think

Overall feedback for the "Shopify Collabs" app is quite polarized among merchants. Some appreciate the app for its ease of use and ability to automate affiliate processes, which helps in building relationships with creators. However, many users express significant frustration due to scams, lack of vetting for creators, and financial losses stemming from fraudulent activities and unresponsive influencers.

Key Strengths

  • Easy to set up and use, simplifying the management of affiliate links and collaborations.
  • Facilitates efficient communication with influencers and creators through automation features.
  • Valued by some for enhancing affiliate and influencer strategies by providing a platform to connect with potential partners.

Common Concerns

  • Widespread issues with fraudulent activities including fake creators and scam orders.
  • Lack of accountability and follow-through from creators after receiving free products.
  • Insufficient vetting process for creators, leading to misuse of the platform.
  • Limited communication features and customization options for managing collaborations.
  • Merchants often incur financial losses due to unauthorized commission payouts.

Final Thoughts

The "Shopify Collabs" app has potential as a tool for managing influencer and affiliate collaborations, greatly simplifying some aspects of these relationships. However, its reputation is marred by frequent reports of scams and fraud, a lack of creator accountability, and a need for more robust features to enhance collaboration security and merchant control. Considerable improvements are needed for the app to gain wider trust and provide a truly beneficial experience for users.

We've only just getting started- but so far the team has been very responsive, and we're seeing our first affiliate traffic and sales. Would like to see some more customization options on the recruitment page(s).

Collabs makes working with creators on a gifting/affiliate basis. Also great support team if you need it. Strong recommend esp for teams who don't have tons of hours to dedicate towards building their program.

I don't like writing 1-star reviews, but this app is useless. We spent serious time looking up applicable creators and offered them free $250 products, but had no responses. Now we're just getting spammed by "beauty" influencers who have zero applicability to us. It seems like Shopify didn't actually verify any of the creators. They either didn't sign up or are fake accounts looking for free things.

we've been "scammed" and taken advantage of several times, due to to the fact that Collabs doesn't "vet" their creators. We ship products to our partners and there's zero communication or response after. After talking with other brands ,it seems as if this is a common problem with Shopify Collabs.

I installed this app about two years ago but never used it. Today, I randomly decided to check something in the app, and to my shock, I found that two people I never accepted as collaborators or invited (again, I NEVER used the app) had scheduled payments, taking a percentage of two of my orders! This is insane! If I hadn't checked the app by chance, they would have stolen my money without me even noticing. This app is an absolute scam. Be very careful! I do NOT recommend installing it. I contacted Shopify support, and the first line support had no idea what to do. They had to escalate the issue to the Shopify Collabs team. I still don't know what's going to happen, but this experience is beyond frustrating and concerning. Stay away from this app! EDIT: the support team replied and I must say that your app is nothing short of a scam. Nowhere in the process of installing or using the app do you mention that people, even if they are not invited or have declined as collaborators, can still create affiliate links of their own. What is the point then? The entire purpose of this app is to allow control, and if I cannot control this, your app is worthless. To make matters worse, support has informed me that the holding period has passed, meaning these unauthorized individuals are now going to take my money—just as I suspected. This is outrageous and reeks of fraud. Your app and the way it operates are simply disgusting.

Have sent product to multiple different creators through this app and not a single one reviews the product. I feel like its all scam people.

I am very disappointed with how influencers are handling brand collaborations on the Shopify Collab. Many influencers send their applications, and after accepting some of them, I sent gifts. They received the gifts but failed to post or share stories about the products. They also do not respond to emails or Instagram messages. Additionally, there is no option to rate these creators/influencers, which allows them to act unaccountably.

I will reconsider my review when "influencers" can be rated and reported for failing to comply with agreed terms. I do not want to give free gifts to random individuals and then be ghosted!!!

Improvements I would like to see is better search/filtering capabilities of the affiliates listed in the recruiting section of the app. Also, once an affiliate has joined the program, I wish it was easier for the affiliates to set up their automatic payments. Currently, it looks like the affiliates have to create a separate Hyperwallet account to get paid automatic commissions. I was hoping the affiliates could just enter their PayPal email address.

I have only just activated this - and the idea is that I have given a Collaborator 10% off their first purchase and from there they will get 15% on every item sold. The items AOV is $250 plus. It remains to be seen if anyone will bite, however, I see I have nothing to lose and the process to get it set up and reach out to legit micro-influencers is easy. Let's see. I am new to this.

Absolutely terrible experience. Creators just take free gifts and ghost. Shopify Collabs is a way for random people (not actual collaborators or influencers) to take free product from you. Not a way to make money, a way to lose money. Also, there is no expectation set by Shopify Collabs for these "creators". But of course there is an expectation to the business to provide something, whether free or a discount. Very disappointing. You are better off connecting with people yourself on social media platforms.

Zero app localization for Japanese. Reached out multiple times to support but they never update the interface to include Japanese.

This app allows the creator to get free item/s upfront and then the creator not fulfilling their task of promoting the item on their socials. Then Ghosting the store, totally rude shameless & actual theft.! Not fair at all if you are a small struggling business. There should be some kind of verification process for the creator to pass or a rating that stores can assign based on the experience with the creator, those creators with low review ratings wont get used

The Collabs app is great however it would be useful to see which influencers have already been invited to collaborate when browsing for new partners.

This app doesn't benefit anyone but the creator. I've had countless creators ghost me after receiving their products even after signing UGC creator contracts. Now I will have to take them all to small claims court! The problem is Shopify shouldn't allow shady people like that on their platform. I've reached out to them to let them know what happened and they're like "unfortunately there is nothing we can do"! How about suspend the accounts of creators who take advantage of brands just to get free products! When I had an issue with a creator on Influenster, the CEO immediately took action and even wanted to send me a refund for the $300 worth of product the creator got. Step it up Collabs. The app is supposed to be a positive, collaborative experience, not one that hurts the very brands that use shopify as their website host to run their businesses.

The app looks good at the beginning because it allows to look for influencer pretty easily...but: 1) there is no rating about the influencer...if they do a good job or not 2) There is no internal chat to communicate with them, after the first message, you need to switch to email 3) there is no mechanism to force the influencer to do their jobs...sometime they get free gifts but they don't do any promotion.

The app is good, but unfortunately all but one, of collabs, including those who initiated contact, just took the free gifts but did nothing to promote them, even after contacting them. Maybe there should be a rule that anyone receiving a gift via this app is committed to doing at least one promo.
