What Merchants Think

Merchants have mixed feelings about Shopify Flow. While many recognize its potential to streamline operations through automation, others find it cumbersome and difficult to use, especially without technical knowledge. The lack of certain features, issues with multilingual support, and occasional unreliable performance have been points of frustration for some users. Despite these challenges, certain users find it indispensable and appreciate its capabilities for automating workflows.

Key Strengths

  • Powerful automation capabilities that save time and streamline operations.
  • The ability to set up rules for various conditions, such as fraud prevention and inventory management.
  • The potential to replace other automation tools like Zapier.
  • Free access to features that can bolster store management.
  • The low-code editor that simplifies the creation of custom automations.

Common Concerns

  • Difficult to use for non-technical users, with unclear instructions.
  • Lack of native multilingual support, affecting global merchants.
  • Unreliable performance with certain flows not working as expected.
  • Poor customer support and limited assistance in resolving issues.
  • Some users find it creates more problems than it solves, leading to frustration.

Final Thoughts

Overall, "Shopify Flow" has been a valuable tool for merchants looking to enhance their store operations through automation. However, its potential is marred by usability issues, unreliable functionality, and a lack of support, making it more suitable for those with technical expertise or the patience to work through its complexities. While improvements and additional features could make it a go-to solution for even more users, as it stands, it appeals primarily to those who can fully navigate and leverage its capabilities.

I appreciate what Shopify Flow tries to do — automating workflows and saving time on routine tasks is definitely valuable. The app is intuitive and integrates well within the Shopify admin. However, there are some limitations that can get frustrating. For example, it can’t interact with certain areas like shipping profiles or some inventory settings, which means you still end up doing manual work for key parts of your store. Also, complex workflows sometimes require trial and error to get right, and the documentation could be clearer. Overall, Flow is a helpful starting point for automation if you have straightforward tasks, but it feels like it could be more powerful and flexible, especially for stores with more complex needs. It’s best suited for automations within Shopify’s exposed API limits. If you rely on automating less common or “hidden” features, Flow won’t cover it yet. For simple order, customer, or product tag automations, it’s worth trying.
